Phil Ossai is an award-winning writer and director with roots in South London and now in the South East of England. A BAFTA Connect member, he honed his storytelling craft through prestigious programs including the BFI Script Lab 2023 and BFI Directors Lab 2024.

Phil’s romantic comedy short film His Sickled Journey—made in partnership with NHS Blood and Transplant—shines a light on sickle cell awareness. The film has earned official selection in the British Urban Film Festival and has been screened in schools and community centres across London, sparking conversation and connection.

Building on his love for rom-coms, Phil co-wrote and directed a series of short films that quickly went viral, and his writing talents have graced BBC Radio’s DM’s Open and ITV’s fresh comedy sketch show Say Less.

His mid-length romantic comedy Christmas Games Night premiered to a sold-out crowd of over 560 people at Genesis Cinema and caught the attention of the British Comedy Guide.

Phil recently completed his first BFIfunded short film, Daddy Daze. A lively comedy-drama exploring the chaos that unfolds when a stay-at-home dad juggles an afternoon with his spirited baby and his old-school Nigerian father.

In 2024, Phil’s storytelling prowess was recognised when he won Outstanding Pitch at The Pitch film funding competition.

He’s also directed several non-broadcast short films for the BBC.

Phil’s work bursts with humour, heart, and a distinctively British charm—an ever-growing portfolio that invites audiences to laugh, reflect, and fall in love.
